In june I took a photo of a beautiful spot just near the farm, the green wheat, the hills the old oak trees looking small within the open landscape.
Everything was deep green and the sunlight was not too strong.

Now harvest time has come and wheat has been collected, the colours have changed and small patches of light beige (other fields where cereals used to grow) create deeper contrasts. It's a sort of different beauty.

Apricots and plums

We're working on the last batch of apricots and the first of plums of the season.
This afternoon we made 8 kg apricot jam

And 7 bottles of plum juice (we just started!)

And this is just a tiny sample of the number of jars and bottles that were filling the kitchen this afternoon.

This year plum juice has a beautiful colour! Even better in the sunset light!

Today I had this beautiful photo from a guest, it almost looks like the image that I have of myself (unlike most other photos) so thank you Fred and Lorraine for capturing the best of me! And here it goes!

Frontone: EaST and crescia

Yesterday I had a day off!
Well, it was just a half day off but it was the first in a long time so I wanted to do something special! I knew that there was an expo of travel-photos by Norma and Maurice Joseph called EaST in Frontone (a tiny village about 25 km from here), I also knew that the expo was going to be open only on Sundays and Saturdays but I decided to give it a try. Frontone is a very nice village near the Apennines, it has two main parts: the new one down in the valley and the old part on the top of a hill with the castle.
There are also some nice restaurants so that I was sure that if the art purpose was not reached at least I could have had a crescia! Crescia is the local flat bread: actually is a sort of mix between a flat bread and puff pastry as it's layers of egg pasta and formed by rolling the dough and folding it after spreading it with lard! Then you cook it on the fire or on a thick pan. Now the crescia is ready to be filled with chards, baked veggies, cheese, ham, grilled sausages or a mix of any of these ingredients and some more.

I was lucky: I could visit the Frontone Fortress and the expo! and I had a fab crescia with grilled sausages and veggies at Ristorante Amabile.
The Fortress is just fab and the views are amazing!

And the photos were great, it was nice to see that old building filled with life and "real people"!

The expo was organized by Associazione Culturale Bellosguardo.

Nighty night

Life can be soooo hard for a tiny tiny puppy!
I think I might need some rest...

Well, apparently the day was really exhausting for my brother too...

Fast food at Valle Nuova?

No, we didn't abandon slow organic food... it's just a hungry puppie!

Cat food?

Cute animals is not the only interesting view at the Valle Nuova...
These are some of the sunsets that we saw during the last weeks.

The eco-cat: giving new use to old objects

Our farm is organic and we try to "tread lightly on the ground"... even our cats are eco-friendly: this kitten is looking for new ways of using any kind of object that is left near the house... she doesn't ask if the object was already in use before her intervention, though...

A bed or a shoe?

A house? ...too small even for a tiny cat!

Last night I was trying to close the door without having the kittens inside the house when I heard a crushy noise from the little slope in front of the house. This was what I saw when I went closer!

Hedgehogs are my very favourite wild animals, they are not shy as one can imagine and they produce the most funny noises while eating! I once knew someone who did the same... but this is a different story.

Cats, dogs, kittens and puppies to start with

Every time that something happens here at the Locanda I take a picture: new puppies, a great sunset, marvellous roses in the garden...
Many times when I take a picture I think: this should go to the website, people should see it!
As I can't modify the website every time something nice happens here I'm starting this blog.
Here's a little summary of the latest events!

Our dog Chicca arrived 2 months ago, we didn't know it but she wasn't alone! On July 16th two giant puppies were born, they don't have a name yet, at the moment they're just "il bianco" and "il nero"... They will have a name as soon as they have a personality!

We also have some kittens at the Locanda this year, they are really cute and most of all they are so friendly and sweet! At the moment they don't have a name either.
